Welcome to the World Wide S.E.T.I. Team home page! WW S.E.T.I is a collection of SETI@Home crunchers from around the globe! We currently have members in over 20 countries. What brings us together? Aside from the benefits of making new friends, our members join together in the world's largest distributed computing project, formally known as SETI@Home (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence -at Home).
Home users and members participate in the project by
donating their cpu's idle time to the task of filtering out
earth generated interference from that of possible alien
transmissions. This is done through the use of
special SETI@Home software.
SETI@Home software is available in several flavors for various operating systems and platforms. The most popular version amongst average home users is the SETI@Home screen saver. This version has a graphical front end and can run in either screen saver or full-time mode. While this version is very appealing to the eye, it increases the time it takes your cpu to complete a WU by SEVERAL HUNDRED percent! The version recommended by power crunchers for 9x, 2K, and XP operating systems, by far, is the SETI@Home command line client; also referred to as CLI. The command line client works perfectly in conjunction with another program called SetiDriver. For those of you who aren't comfortable working within a DOS environment, SetiDriver provides a graphic front end or GUI (Graphical User Interface).
